OfflineBear Valley Loop Trail (Sierra Trek pre-run) Saturday July 25th: This is a club run open to anybody with a stock, high clearance 4X4. This will be a pre-run for the Sierra Trek Outer Limits run that our club is leading two weeks later in August. The purpose of the run is to evaluate trail conditions and do planning and any necessary trail maintenance in preparation for the Outer Limits Run. Typically we have done some minor pruning and we mark the trail with flagging for the Outer Limits Run. Please bring the usual trail maintenance tools such as saws, loppers, shovels, chainsaws, etc. Trimming brush is typically the main need so if you have loppers and electric shears, please bring them.
The Bear Valley Loop Trail is rated as an easy trail. It is a combination of dirt roads, dirt trails and rock trails. All of the winch hills have easy bypasses for those who want to avoid the winch hills. The staging area for the trail is located about 20 minutes north of Truckee on Hwy 89. The trail tends to be dusty and does have some brushy areas that may need to be trimmed back. Mild cowboy pinstriping can occur.
Run details: Meet at the Truckee Shell gas station on Hwy 89, just south of I-80 (10278 CA-89, Truckee) at 8:30am on Saturday July 25th. Plan to depart at 9:00AM sharp or sooner if everyone is ready to go. Staging and drivers meeting will be on Cottonwood Road just east of Hwy 89 near Little Truckee Summit (note: there are vaulted toilets on the opposite side of Hwy 89 at the Little Truckee Summit OHV/Snowmobile staging area if in need). We will stop for lunch along the trail or ideally at the Bear Valley Campground which has vaulted toilets. We should be off the trail mid to late afternoon depending on how much maintenance is needed. Ideally there will be some time to play on the winch hills. This is an opportunity for anyone who needs to do their member BBQ in order to become a full member.
Please post up if you plan to make this run so we can get a headcount for planning purposes. This is alos a good opportunity if someone wants to host their member BBQ.

I’m also looking for an empty seat. This would also be a perfect time to host my bbq, I’m thinking pulling pork!

The lunch spot is at Bear Valley Campground which can be reached with just about any two wheel drive vehicle. Ideally you could ride with someone and then they could take you to the lunch spot early to set up for lunch. It would be good to keep lunch to one hour so we have time to work on and run the trail. If there isn't an open seat with someone who could take your there early, you could just go straight to the lunch spot. I suspect there will be an open seat for you and Chris and that someone can take you to lunch early for set up.
If you do end up doing your member BBQ, then tell us what you will be providing (the main food such as pork and buns?) and we will all post up what we will bring to the potluck such as drinks, chips, salads and desserts.

OfflineI won't be able to make this run, but thought I might toss out an idea. Last year we didn't get the entire trail done because there was so much brush to trim. If there are enough people, might be worth having one group loop like you will during the event, and have a second group go in the exit and go opposite direction. Meet at the lunch spot. Help cover more trail.

Thanks for your recommendation. I think the best plan would be to stay together and focus our trail maintenance and brush trimming on the second half of the trail. I will contact the club that maintains the trial and see how it is looking. We were going the opposite direction of them on Slick Rock last Satruday and they had about 30 vehicles going by us. We had to wait a long time. I have to assume they have plenty of manpower to take care of the Bear Valley Loop trail!

OfflineSo far here is who is attending and what they are bring to the member BBQ per the replies on this thread (not a great response so far!):
1. Me (Jeff): Chips
2. Chris: Fruit
3. Richard: Pulled pork
And both Richard and Chris want to ride with someone. Do we need to cancel this event?

I am officially in. I will bring some drinks and treats. Do we need plates/napkins/etc?
I also have a free seat or 3.

OfflineAttending, and what they are bring to the member BBQ per the replies on this thread:
1. Me (Jeff): Chips
2. Chris: Fruit
3. Richard: Pulled pork
4. Kris: Drinks and treats
5. Brad and Garett (son): Plates/napkins/forks, Cesar salad (possibly bringing my son as well as a passenger)
Looks like we will have two rigs with two passengers and four attendees total. Normally we have a much better turnout for this run, so we won't have as much manpower for trail maintenance this year. If anyone else is planning to attend, please post up ASAP so that Richard knows how much pork to buy. Thanks!
I will bring two battery powered hedge trimmers. Kris, if you are bringing a chainsaw then I will leave mine at home.
