You pick a date, and I will take the time off as long as I don't have any meetings or other work conflicts.

Rob, is a weekday run still an option? Kevin? It would probably be later in September since I won't order the skid until next Monday.

That sounds cool!

Kevin and I thought it was just going to be us, so we changed the run over to Fordyce which is closer to Auburn. It is a shorter drive to the trail and a shorter trail all together. The Fordyce trail is one of the most scenic trails around. I think it is even more scenic than the Rubicon. 60% of the trail you are running parallel to Fordyce creek. The trail starts up Hwy 80 at Eagle lakes and crosses the Sierras over to Meadow lake which is off of hwy 89 north of Truckee. Is Fordyce harder than the Rubicon? Yes, it can be more challenging. Can it be done without any body damage? Yes it can. I know for a fact that more people have suffered body damage on the Rubicon than Fordyce including myself, Brad, John, and Kevin. Can it be done without breaking anything, there is no guarantee of that on any trail, but if you listen to your spotter and take a strap when you should, you can really limit the possibilities. Don't use Kevin as an example, he has a lead foot when it comes to getting over an obstacle
How is your Jeep set up? You should not attempt the Rubicon or Fordyce without at least a rear locker and 33 or larger tires. Trying to run either one of those trails open would be a frustrating and long day for you, and your chance of breakage would go up really high. I don't think anyone will disagree with me there.
I will do my best at getting you through the trail with as little trouble as possible so you can enjoy yourself, but you need at least one locker and 33 or better tires. That would go for either trail.
I will leave the final decision up to Kevin on which trail he wants to run. I just want to get my wife out on the trail this year!!!
My vote would be for Fordyce so we can go explore and look for the old mining town that is before WH 1 up on the mountain side. I hear it is about a 1 mile hike with a lot of old abandoned mining equipment and some old mining shafts.

And a D60 in the rear (now).

Josh, I think you said you have 35s now but I don't remember if you have a locker. If so, it will be challenging but we can get you through. If not, I'm thinking of doing a run next month to Pardoe's Trail which is much easier (easier than the Hell Hole run we went on) and very scenic. I've never run that trail and would like to check it out and check out the scenery. Once I know more I'll pick a weekend and put it on the calendar.
For this weekend I would still prefer to run Fordyce since I haven't yet this year and check out the mining town. 🙂

I don't have a locker. I'm running 35'' tires on a next gen Dana 35 solid rear axle. Non c clip version. I know it's not as strong as what some of the club members run. But you have to start somewhere. If you guys pick Fordyce I will pass. Thanks for the advice. I will wait for the next run to be posted.

We made it home late last night. Made it through the trail in good time, but Kevin broke a shackle bracket off the frame on his front axle. We used is winch cable to wrap the shackle and suck it down to the front bumper. Worked great. First time I was glad someone had steel cable. As tight as we had to get the cable to hold the leaf in place would have cut synthetic. He drove it off the trail and all the way to Truckee. He called a tow truck then we ate at Panda Express. Two hours later and no tow truck showed up. AAA told Kevin it might be an hour or more before they could get a truck to him. AAA told him he could pay for a commercial truck and then try to get AAA to reimburse him. AAA dropped the ball on that one!!! Kevin decided to just drive slow on the way home. It was about 10:30 pm, so we hit the slow lane and drove about 30mph all the way home. It was a great trip, breakage is all part of it. Now Kevin can replace the OEM thin shackle brackets with some heavy duty after market ones.
Pictures to come in a bit.
Great trip Kevin
