All, I must bow out of the 2 day run, and related leadership.
It is my daughters 21st birthday.  Being a great parent I forgot about it, until the boss reminded me.

Good luck all.  I would be willing to lead a separate 2 day run later if others would like.

Does your daughter want you anywhere near her 21st birthday? She is also the boss in this situation. Ask here while wearing an embarrassing dad shirt might get you the weekend free.

While she may not want me there - the other boss would not be too happy...  And I don't need a shirt to embarrass her.  just ask her!

So the plan is to camp two nights at Buck Island. That makes for a long day on Sunday, especially depending on Saturday night's activities. Have you thought about camping at Rubicon Springs on Saturday night? The Friday group could run the RTF loop Saturday morning while the Saturday group heads in and then they could meet up and all wheel to the Springs for camping on Saturday night. I have run the Rubicon in a day a couple of times and that makes for a long day, especially if you have any issues. If you run it from Buck Island on Sunday and have issues, that might makes for a long day and you might not make it out before dark. So I'm just throwing this option out there as food for thought.

Foresthill Four Wheelers are running it Wednesday through Friday, camping at Buck Island on Wednesday and then at the Springs on Thursday. I have toyed with the idea of going in with them on Wednesday and then just staying a Buck Island until Gold Hills arrives at Buck Island on Friday. If so, would anyone else be interested in joining me? We could probably secure a good camping spot at Buck Island for our club by doing this.

I agree that the drive out Sunday would be easier if we were already at the springs, but i am down for whatever the group wants.  I think it might also depend on if anyone comes in Saturday or not.  That would make for a long day to get all the way to the springs.  Driving out from the springs to tahoe should be mostly 1 way traffic, but from buck down big sluice we might hit a lot of traffic that is coming back out to their trailers from the springs.

One day or the other will be a longer drive. My "logic", if I actually have any, would be to make the drive on Sunday shorter. After all, once we get off the trail, we have to drive home on a Sunday.

I can only do the 3 days and my only overnight experience on Rubicon was with Jeff at the springs. That’s was fun and easy drive out.

I’ve never stayed at buck island and wouldn’t mind something new. But I would agree a shorter trail day on the last day would make getting home and ready for work the next day much easier.

Hey Gang,

I definitely agree with shorter exit strategy, especially since it removes a variety of potential variables on the way out but I do like the idea of a side trip. Whatever y'all choose I'd be happy just to be there. That said, I'm gearing up to join you all but I haven't seen a clear okay to join. I don't want to be a party crasher.

If all goes well, I'll be camping somewhere around the trailhead on Thu.

Hi Tim. I saw that Roy put you on the list of attendees and he noted that you did not indicate when you were going (i.e. the two day run or the three day run). There is no longer a two day run, so everyone is going in on Friday and out on Sunday.

Jeff, are taking about the list I posted a few weeks ago or did Roy have s new list at the meeting this week that I missed.  Per this forum I still saw 2 people undecided on Friday or Saturday with the rest committed to Friday.  Did the plans change this week at the meeting?  And yes, I had Tim listed for Friday.

Looks like Tim is committing to the 3 days - well actually a 4 day since he’s possibly going up Thursday.

Hey everyone,

We are getting close and I'm excited. It appears everyone has committed to the 3 day. That list includes:

Roy/ Romika
Chris/ Mykey
Brian/ Nate
Dale
Kelly
Jeff
Jayson/ Stacy
Tim
Richard
Gil

Here's the plan. We will meet at the spill way other side of loon lake dam. Cords are 39°00'11.9"N 120°18'41.7"W. We will be on Posse 2 Ham radio channel.

Time: Meet at 8:00am. We will air down and be on the trail at 8:30am.

Plan:  Head to buck island lake. Estimated 6-7 hours. We can set up camp, swim, eat and hang out. In the morning, we can get up, eat, pack up camp and head to the rubicon springs where we can set up camp again and hang out for the last night. Wake up in the morning, eat, pack up camp and head out Cadillac Hill. We can grab some lunch at Sonnies BBQ Shack for those that want to. Then head home and get ready for the week.

There are no fire restrictions I can find as of now. I can get a fire permit. If each of us can put a little bit of wood in our rigs we could make fires each night. I will also bring my electric chain saw.

I will be going up highway 50. I will stop in pollock pines to fuel up at 6:15am and leave at 6:30am. If you want to meet me there and follow me up you know where I'll be.

Post up any questions. My number is (916) 275-3956 if you want to text or call me.

Probably a good idea for everyone to get a camp fire permit...  Permits | Ready for Wildfire I just renewed mine tonight.

Hey guys, I really screwed up. In my head I was thinking that the Foresthill Rubicon run and this run were next week, not this week. This morning I just realized that Foresthill is already on the Rubicon and that you leave tomorrow. As a result of the mix up, I haven't done any preparation (vehicle prep, food, packing, etc.). I will let you know later today whether or not I am going.

Richard, rest up and get better.  You will be missed,  but 1 month is not that long in the grand scheme of this.

Jeff, unacceptable.  You still have 20 hours.

I'm working on it. Hardtop off, safari top on now. Full doors off, half doors on now. One can of chili pulled from pantry. I have a ton of work left to do!
