This post is for Sierra Trek Main Event which begins Thursday, August 6, 2026 - Sunday, August 9, 2026.  Romika and I plan on arriving on Monday, August 3, 2026 to set up early and hold some spots.  We will need a list of who plans on camping and dates so we can save spots and ensure the Posse remains together.  The areas Jeff secured for us last year was really nice so we will try for that again.

Post up if you are planning to camp and dates please.  There is a cost for camping but the cost was very minimal.

The cub will again be leading the Outer Limits Run on the Bear Valley Loop Trail on Saturday August 8, 2026. You can attend Sierra Trek as a volunteer (called a committee member) or as a regular attendee. Committee members receive a discounted registration rate of $125 per person (regular registration is $300/person but there are lower rates for camping and meals only; i.e. no 4X4 run included). The registration fee for committee members includes meals plus one committee run in addition to the Outer Limits Run. Committee members can also pay an extra fee to participate in an additional run. Meals include dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and breakfast on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You are on your own for Thursday breakfast and all lunches. There are several new runs this year including some overlanding trips (link for run descriptions: https://cal4wheel.com/sierra-t.....scriptions).

There are a number of positions open for committee members. Since the club has agreed to lead the Outer Limits Run, it is important that we have six to eight rigs to assist in leading the run. In addition, there are a number of other committee positions that Sierra Trek is looking to fill. Those positions include but are not limited to helping cook or serve breakfast(s) or dinner(s), spotting/assisting on winch hills and a variety of other jobs.

If your are interested in becoming a committee member please post your area of interest in this thread (i.e. Outer Limits Run, winch hill/spotting aid, meals, etc.) or see Jeff R. with any questions. If you are interested in being a committee member please post the names in this thread of anyone in your group who would like to serve as a committee member. I will need to submit those names to the registration team and give you a special registration link in order for you to receive the committee member discount. Please do not share the committee member registration link with anyone else. Once I have a complete list of committee members I will submit that list to the registration team and will send you the committee registration link at that time. Cost for committee members is $125. You can sign up for additional runs or purchase apparel when you register online.

If you are registering as a regular individual (i.e. not as a committee member) here is the link: https://cal4wheel.com/events/sierra-trek. The standard registration fee is $300 per person plus $40 for any additional runs.

I will also be posting a separate thread in the future for a pre-run on the Bear Valley Loop Trail, which we will do a few weeks prior to Sierra Trek (probably July 26th). The Bear Valley Loop Trail is a moderate trail and this run would be open to anyone who wishes to attend, regardless if you are attending Sierra Trek or not. The purpose of the pre-run is to plan the Outer Limits Run and to do any necessary maintenance in order to make the Outer Limits Run safe and enjoyable for Sierra Trek attendees.

WHERE: Meadow Lake Near Truckee, CA.

DIRECTIONS: DO NOT FOLLOW YOUR GPS

  1. Exit I-80 in Truckee on Hwy 89 North (Toward Sierraville).
  2. Proceed North on Hwy 89 for 14.6 miles.
  3. Turn left on USFS Road 7 (toward Webber Lake and Jackson Meadows Reservoir). Note OHV staging area on right after turning off 89, this is the staging area for the Thursday SUV runs.
  4. Proceed west on USFS Road 7 for 9.5 miles.
  5. Turn left on USFS Road 86 (toward Meadow Lake). Pavement ends, it's 10.9 miles to camp.
    • 0.6 miles, road forks, KEEP RIGHT.
    • 6.0 miles further, stay on the main road to the right of the White Rock Lake turnoff (do not take turnoff)
    • 2.0 miles further, KEEP RIGHT.
    • 0.6 miles further, KEEP LEFT & note OHV campground on right 0.1 mile further; this is usually empty and is a good camp area if you want to stay away from the crowd.
    • 1.6 miles further to Sierra Trek Base Camp.

Sierra Trek is a Cal4Wheel event located in California’s beautiful Tahoe National Forest. This is a family-oriented event geared towards everything from stock 4x4s on guided historic and slightly challenging tours to fully built rock crawlers on Fordyce Creek Trail and everything in between. Stock vehicles should consider signing up for the Wednesday/Thursday Overnight, the Saturday Historic Run, the Outer Limits Run or the Signal Peak run. Moderately modified vehicles will love the beauty and the challenge of the intermediate run or the Signal Peak Run.

Fordyce Trail is an extremely technical and challenging trail, therefore is offered to the more modified vehicles requiring at least 35” tires and a minimum of one locker. Larger tires, two lockers and crawler gearing are all recommended to improve the overall participant experience on the Fordyce Trail runs. The surrounding area trails allow Sierra Trek to offer runs for less modified 4x4 vehicles.

As always, we love to embrace a family atmosphere and welcome the next generation of four-wheelers into the sport. We welcome everyone to main camp for a Cornhole Tournament, and a world class vendor show. Please feel free to explore the area and locate any one of the numerous geocaches. Come to camp at night for the campfire with a live band. Enjoy your favorite adult beverage from the bar while you make new friends and catch up with old ones. As always enjoy great food, a scenic environment and make lifelong memories. We look forward to seeing you at Sierra Trek.

I wish I had these directions when I first went in 2019.  I took GPS until the road ended.  Improvised from there.  Great job Romika/Roy!

"There is a cost for camping but the cost was very minimal". That's because I covered the cost for almost everyone, haha! Actually, it was my pleasure but as discussed last year, since we are leading a run, because we have ample funds and because we have to pay for unoccupied campsites for several days to camp together as a club, let's discuss having the club cover our camping fees in the future for this event.

Jeff R, club covering it would be good. You shouldn't have to pay for everyone.

It would be nice to save multiple spaces for the entire club especially if the club could sponsor that.  Let's discuss this at the next meeting.

The website says the fees are:

$15/ site per night

$3 for extra vehicle per night

$1 for pets per night

And thanks for your support Jeff - physically, emotionally and now financially.  smile

I have the registration link for those of you who are registering as committee members (i.e. volunteers) for the 2026 Sierra Trek. Please do not share this link anyone without my consent. I will text or email you the link because it doesn't appear that the PM function is working on this forum. Here is who I believe is planning to go as a committee member. If I have missed anyone, please post here so I can add you to the list. I will be posting a follow-up post indicating your role as a committee member and opportunities to assist in areas beyond the Outer Limits Run.

1. Me (Jeff)

2. Roy and Romika

3. Keith and Katina

4. Jayson and Stacey

5. John (and Aileen?)

6. Brian Cathcart (and?)

7. Jamie

8. Kelly

9. Curtis and Jamie

When you register, most of us will being doing the Friday River Run Committee for our included committee run. Be aware, the registration website may be very slow.

As I mentioned previously, here is a list of those who are going and what committee position they have to the best of my knowledge. I need to report committee members to Trek and indicate their role. Since we have a number of people who offered to help out in areas besides the Outer Limits Run, we are now the Friday breakfast crew. They know we don't have enough people sop they will be finding other people to assist.

1. Me (Jeff): Friday winch Hill Five with Foresthill and Saturday Outer Limits Run. I also plan to help with some Trek Town setup earlier in the week.

2. Roy and Romika: Roy driver Outer Limits Run (Roy also offered to help with setup)

3. Keith and Katina: Keith driver Outer Limits Run (Katina and Keith alos volunteered to help with setup)

4. Jayson and Stacey:

5. John (and Aileen?): John driver Outer Limits Run

6. Brian Cathcart (and?): Driver Out Limits Run

7. Jamie: Driver Outer Limits Run

8. Kelly: Sunday breakfast crew

9. Curtis and Jamie: Curtis driver Outer Limits Run

I know we had people offer to do Friday breakfast but I don't remember who they are. This event is only two months away so please indicate what your committee role will be so I can update my information. Thanks!

There seems to be some confusion on the committee registration page. Normally we have an option to select the River Committee Poker Run on Thursday as our "free" committee run. This year there is no River Committee Poker Run as an option on Thursday. There is a River Committee Run (not a Poker run) listed on Friday. For now, it you register and want to do the Committee River Run, then please select the Friday option. I also see that there is both a Friday and a Saturday Outer Limits Run listed as a committee option. To the best of my knowledge, and looking at the public registration link, there is no Friday Outer Limits Run. As a result, please select Saturday Outer Limits Run for the committee you belong to. I have emailed this year's chairman seeking clarification on the River Run options for us as committee members. As soon as I get clarification, I will let you all know. Thank you Roy for texting me and bringing this to my attention.

Thank you Jeff for your leadership here.

I wonder if it’s the lack of volunteers to help spot winch hills on Thursday?  If that’s the case maybe our club can also take this on either Thursday or Friday leaving the other day for us to run.

Either way I’d hate for you to miss out on the club run because you committed to helping on winch hill 5 on Friday. If they add a Thursday I’ll come spend some time with you guys at winch hill 5 on Friday.

Another option might be doing this run ourselves on Thursday assuming less traffic we can get it done quicker?  Just tossing around ideas. I’m just excited to hang out with all of you that week.

There were a few of us who were considering the Signal Peak run in addition to the Outer Limits run, but Signal Peak was not available when I tried to register over the weekend. I reached out to them and Warren Story said they were looking at an alternative to Signal Peak because it is being closed down due to work on power lines. I've not received a response yet on what the alternative will be, but I'm sure they'd be open to suggestions. He seemed to think they'd have it worked out this week.

I’m not sure yet if I’m going up Wednesday afternoon or early Thursday morning, and camping with the group. I will volunteer for anything (preferably not meals). I haven’t registered yet!

Hi all. Today I did some follow up texting and emails regarding the confusion surrounding Sierra Trek. The Thursday Committee River Poker Run was accidentally left off of the committee registration form page. This will be fixed and you should be able to log back in and change your committee run to the Thursday River Poker Run after the website is corrected.

The Thursday Fordyce River Committee Poker Run is now an option at Sierra Trek. You can now log in and change your committee run to the Thursday Fordyce River Committee Poker Run.

Hi All,

I'm helping our VP out.  If you preordered your Sierra Trek volunteer shirts, Romika has placed the order.  Please pay her $20 per shirt.  You can Venmo her or bring cash to the next meeting.  I've attached her Venmo info. Please put your name and "shirt" in the comment section of the Venmo so she can mark you off.

Thanks!

Aight, finally got my stuff together and registered, I am planning on Tuesday - Sunday. I do have an oil leak I want to find and fix before, I think it might be the valve cover on passenger side rear, will dig in to it next week.

I'm registered for the Outer Limits run.  I signed up for the River Poker Run but won't be able to drive it.  Jeep won't be ready for that trail by then.
