Don't Forget, meetings have moved to our new location @ Mark and Monica's Family Pizza, 4751 Manzanita Ave., Carmichael, CA 95608!

The club has volunteered to work Winch Hill 5 on Cal4Wheel’s Sierra Trek. For those not familiar with the event check here: http://www.cal4wheel.com/sierr...../trek.html. Winch Hill 5 is the closest to Meadow Lake and most club members are planning to work the Hill during the day and camp at the lake at night. If you’re interested in joining us, let me know. There’s a dirt road to the campground so bring your family! Details are below.
When: August 7-9. August 7 is optional and I’m expecting only the die-hards to be there. 😀 The 8th and 9th will be long days so be prepared to work (and have fun). Plan to start early!
What: Help get folks past Winch Hill 5 and off the trail safely.
Details: If you want a shirt, they’re $10 each and you need to get me the money ASAP. PM me and I’ll get you my address. You’ll need to mail the money this week! Shirts are Kelly green. If you want to volunteer and pay to camp with the Trek in Cisco Grove I’ll also need to know by the end of the week.
The official gonna be there list!

Dan, I'm stealing your post from the other thread because I thought it showed what we'll be doing pretty clearly. Hope it's ok. 😀

cliffnotes: put a rig where the blue truck is and chain it to the rocks as one winch rig. Direct traffic to the part of the trail where the white toy is.

The pic above has some good detail. The white toyota is the trail where they send all the traffic.
They block the trail where the blue truck is (by parking a truck there), and its a great winch spot as you can chain your rear bumper to large rocks.
In this pic, the white YJ is totally dead. I winched it up to the corner about 20 feet back from where it is now. Then the blue truck winched it to where it is, but the pull was bringing it across the hill and it almost rolled.
You can see a safety line on the roll cage coming from my jeep.
Then the white toy came down the hill for a straighter pull.
Here is where I am parked taking the pic above.

Me and my dad will be running the sierra trek in my truck on friday the 8th and saturday the 9th. We will be doing the upper part on saturday. So we will probably see you guys up there. If you want, we will stay there and help out. We might just camp at Meadow Lake. If not, we will probably just go home that night. I dont think we will stay at the main camp.

They'll be running rigs up on Thursday. They can't keep you off the trail, but, I think you'll be considered a "party crasher" if you run it on Thursday. They plan to start REALLLLLLY early.

So, what time would we need to be at winch hill 5? noon? Earlier? Later?
I plan to bring both the PETT and the Canopy - no capris...

We're not required to be there on Thursday, but if we would like to be, they will take the help. I hope to be up there in the mid morning. I'll confirm the times that we need to be there on Friday and Saturday next weekend at our next Sierra Trek meeting. For some reason, I'm thinking 8.

OfflineMy tentative plans are to work staging on friday and head up to WH5 via truckee.
Options might be to run the trail late friday up to meadow after the official run is done.
or
if there are enough bodies, skip staging and head up to meadow via truckee friday morning.
or head south and run the rubicon backwards.
either way I'll be up near kingvale/soda springs thursday nite.
Closed Mondays.

Saturday - 8:15 amI plan to head up Thursday morning. I'll try and get there early enough to claim a few camp sites and head down the hill.
We'll be there Thursday am, before the required time. I like the idea about grabbing the campsite. Can we coordinate where to set up? It would be nice to camp together (since I have a the potty, and fred has an RV)!

What about meeting somewhere in Truckee at 9? That gives us a few hours to get to the lake, grab a site, and get down to the hill. We can meet farther down the hill if you'd like, but I'm guess that Fred in the RV and me in the 4Runner are going to take a bit longer than the rest of you to get up the hill.
