Proposed date: Friday September 30th through Saturday October 1st.

Note: Brent has organized this run in the past so if he wants to head it up and lead I'm fine with that! I just want to get the run on the calendar if there is sufficient interest.

Plan: Come up and camp Thursday night at Utica Reservoir (Rocky Point Campground) or meet there or just past there at the southern Slick Rock trailhead Friday morning (time to be determined). Run Slick Rock south to north on Friday and camp at Hermit Valley Campground right off Hwy 4 on Friday night. Run Deer Valley south to north on Saturday and possibly Strawberry pass the same day. If someone wants to just run one of these trails then they can make a day trip of it or just camp one night and run one trails. We could also consider camping on Deer Valley at one of the river crossings on Saturday night which would make it a very leisurely trip.  Based on interest level we will adjust the plan to meet the needs of the group. Disclaimer: I will be there provided my Jeep is fixed by then, which it sure better be! I would also consider a mid October date as there would be less chance of wildfire smoke or fire impacts but colder and more chance of rain or an early snow.

Very interested for both days.  I may not camp the night before. My Jeep should be ready by then also.

So does that mean you know what direction to go with the Jeep???  New axles or fix the old ones???

Interested for Saturday. I am not familiar with this trail. Is there a place I can leave my trailer for the Saturday part of the run?

It's a through trail. We would start at Hermit Valley Campground on Saturday morning on Hwy 4 and come out at Lower Bluer Lake Campground on Blue Lake Rd. or on Hwy 88 at Red Lake.

I was trying to get an estimate of how long it would take to drop your Jeep at Hermit Valley campground and then take your trailer to the other end of the trail but Hwy 89 is still closed north of Markleeville due to storm damage so I can't get an accurate estimate. I was thinking that someone might be able to pick you up at Hwy 88 at Red Lake and bring you back to Hermit Valley if they were going that direction on Saturday for a Saturday run.

I think we will be able to do just the Saturday day trail run (back and forth deer valley ending back at hermit camp ground) since I can’t drive street roads.

Provided I can get that Friday off work (which I think I can) count me in. I have wanted to run Slick Rock for a while and Deer Valley is a great trail. I am looking forward to this!

I am planning on going if I am in town at that time. But with my work it's tough to say if I will be, being hurricane season.

I would like for someone else to take the lead on this run as it appears that my Jeep may not be fixed by then. If someone has space I could possibly ride shotgun but my son and daughter-in-law are in the process of buying a house in Seattle so I may end up going up there to help them with some renovations before they move in. Is anyone willing to lead the run if I can't make it?

I will lead this run. Is slick rock an out and back trail? How long does it take?

Thanks Robert, I appreciate it. It is a thru-trail. Best way to run it is south to north from Utica Reservoir to Lake Alpine.

Tyler has some info and a good map on his website and also some pictures of me in my Jeep at Snail Trail 4X4: https://myoffroadradio.com/sli.....il-review/

AllTrails has a good map of the trail (may need to log in to view it) but not of how to get to the southern trailhead. https://www.alltrails.com/trai.....rock-trail

Here is a map from Arnold top Utica Reservoir. Zoom in and you will see the southern trailhead: https://www.google.com/maps/di.....426261!3e0

How long does it take? Half a day to three weeks!

I've put in for the days off, but I'm currently working out of town in San Jose. Hopefully I'll be able to make it. Drivers are being sent to the gulf this week. So it's up in the air at this point.

We plan on being there for both days. Might come up Friday morning, run Slick rock and spend the night at Hermit for Deer Valley on Saturday. If that goes as planned I'll help Robert Lead. It's been a few years since I did Slick Rock and I don't take the easy routes so just do the opposite as me and you will make it.
