I have tried everything and the only thing left is a rebuild. Yes I could pull the piston drill hone the cylinder and put new rings on. This would only fix one cylinder and the rest of them are still beat to sh@#. It would be unethical and sleazy to knowingly sell a vehicle with a blown motor to anyone. So even though I can't afford it, I will be pulling the motor next week. I'm not sure how to get it to and from the machine shop, so I might ask for some assistance. Please excuse my but i'm not happy.
So sorry Bill. I realize money is tight but what about buying a complete motor for 800, swapping them, selling the jeep, doing a rebuild on the remaining motor and selling it for 800? I think Tom may be coming up on a new motor!
Those motors are cast iron and very heavy so be careful - ask for some help. I have done a 4.0 swap before (in an XJ). I can't believe the motor was bad at 75K miles. Did you compression tested the motor? What did the numbers come out at before and after the head rebuild? I fixed my missfire codes (cyl 2 and cyl 6 randomly) with a coilpack replacement.

Sat is my anniversary so it's a no go for me. Sorry.

For reference the average rated life for my JK's motor is 105,000. 😯
Dang!! Where are you getting these stats? I might have to rethink a Jk.
Um...what?

I'm curious about those stats too. 105k is nothing. I don't even think a Toyota is broken in at that point.

Tonight Carl came over and we tore into the jeep. We started at six thirty and worked till eleven. Joe sugested we remove the grill and radiator to have good clearance to remove the engine. So thats what we did. The front guard was a major pain. We had to cut off the bottom bumper tabs and use heat a chisle and a bfh to persuade it off. Next came the grill and radiator. We also pulled the drive shafts and the transfercase. A lot was acomplished, thanks to Carl. However there is still a lot more to go. We will resume tomorrow morning. If any one is board you are welcome to swing by.

Thanks Carl for all your help tonight, and thanks to anyone who comes tomorrow. This has become a huge ordeal, more than anyone could ever imagine! It certainly isn't what we "signed up for." Obviously, the true condition of the vehicle wasn't appropriately conveyed to us when we purchased it. It has consumed us, financially, emotionally, etc. But my hubby is a man of character and is doing this completely right for the seller. In the end, this will be an awesome rig, ready to go! Wish us luck! Time for a

Really Bill, I did not hide anything on that jeep. That Jeep passed smog at a certified station the day I sold it to you. You bought a used Jeep with 60K plus miles on that you knew had been wheeled hard. You even drove it to the Rubicon and wheeled it there. For you or your wife to insinuate I cheated you is complete bullsh#t. Attacking my character on here is a pathetic attempt at making yourself feel better.

Regardless of who is to blame for the situation. I have the responsibility to finish this jeep before it severely impacts my life. I have learned may lessons and want this project to be finished. I am half way through the engine rebuild and want to share the tech so that it might help someone in the future.

This morning Carl and Josh were here bright and early. We continued removing the intake and exhaust manifold, the ac compressor. In between eating doughnuts and drinking coffee we plug by plug and bolt by bolt removed all the connections. The big question was weather to remove the the engine with the tranny or not. We ended leaving it in. This worked good. Of cojrse I should have drained the tranny fluid first. But with the expertise of Josh and Carl we were able to manuver it out. We started at 7:30 this morning and had the motor on the stand at one and stripped down by three.
