Perhaps it's a chance to do something different, like the Bear Valley loop.
The main trail is drivable by most vehicles, but they had (marked) alternate routes that are a tougher... think of bypasses but in opposite.
You drive along the trail, come to a fork in the road, and one side is marked "easy" and the other is marked "moderate' or "hard".
This may be the perfect solution to the casual off-road and hunting crowds that destroy the obstacles every year just to get their trucks through.
I used to wheel a lot. . .

All very good points. I think this is going to be a very long process. If you take a look at the King fire you can see how many roads they created to log the burn area. This will create many new future access point for hunters, off-roaders, etc. I fear that restoring the trail to a recreational 4X4 trail will be years out at best, especially if they use it or portions of it for logging operations. The waiting game is going tough for our club members.

I kind of like john's ideas we will have to see what the forest service also has in mind. Are we maybe talking true multi use? if we are we may want to reach out to other organizations (i.e. horse riders, dirt/side by side clubs) to get their input, as well has the hunting and hiking communities.

I agree with Jeff that restoration of utilities & logging operations will be the focus more than any other activity in the foreseeable future. After traveling Hwy 50 recently, there is a huge effort with this going on right now. Say what you want about PG&E, but they have a tremendous amount of people & equipment & subcontractors working in most all areas than I’ve ever seen, not to mention other past fire areas.
The forest is not 100% burned; there are many areas (visible from 50) that burned in spots, other areas completely destroyed. I think it’s going to be a long time before we see any opportunity to participate in trail infrastructure, but we need to stay in touch with Kyle for updates.

Interesting update: “There is no ‘cause and origin’ report by an arson investigator/expert with an opinion as to the source or cause of the fire,” they wrote. “There is no theory advanced by the prosecution as to how and in what manner and with what means that either defendant is responsible for the start of the fire.”

I just heard earlier this week they have arrested a father and son for starting the fire, judge reduced their bail from 1mil to like 25k or something like that cause he felt they did t start it on purpose. But I could be wrong...
