Things are okay, I need my back to heal from the accident. I cant even drive 5 miles on the road without being in pain. I start my PT monday. Doc is already telling me surgery is the next step if I dont heal from the PT. So Till then I am going to be low key and hope I recover :/

That's no excuse, once you get to the trail, we only go a few miles per day.  In all seriousness, get better soon.

I though that might be the case, sorry man! Hopefully PT gets you back because surgery is no fun!

After talking with a few of the members planning on going on this trip, the plan will be to camp at Buck Island the first night (Monday), then move down to the slabs at the springs on Tuesday before heading out through Tahoe Wednesday.

Sounds like a great plan, can't wait! We are still planning to do the new RTF loop correct?

I'm good with that.  And if part of the group wants to just head down to Buck to set up camp while the other half does the loop, that would work also.

There is a chance that we won't be able to do the full trail due to snow. In that case I assume we may go to Rubicon Springs or as far as we can go and then back, right Chris?

I've been trying not to think about that part, but yes, that might be are only option.  I've already told my girls that that might be what happens.  If so, I figure we can wheel into the springs then back out through Loon.

Saw a post from Tyler today that said people have gotten from Loon Lake to Observation Point already. That's encouraging because that means they made it up Cadillac Hill. Not sure what kind of vehicles, but looks like good news for this run. Now they just need to get from Tahoe to Observation Point.

I'm feeling fairly confident that in the 2 weeks the trail will be passable.  I heard about a week ago that people were making past the lakes coming in from Tahoe side.  1 or 2 more thunderstorms should melt just enough.

Just heard that someone made it from loon all the way to tahoe.  Give it 2 more weeks of sun and people going thru and we should be good.

Sounds like plenty of folks making it through, we should be good to go! I also just refreshed my mosquito spray, sounds like they are the size of teradactyls right now grin

Also picked up a campfire permit so I can make coffee in the morning, barely passed the test angel

Be sure to do your vehicle inspection ASAP. I saw a couple of drops of oil under my Jeep and I found that I had sheared off a rear diff cover bolt on Hell Hole. Got some new shoes this week too. I went with 35' Mickey Thompson Baja Boss MT tires. Top is off and half doors are on. Just need to put the safari top on. Bears have been an increasing problem on the Rubicon so consider your food storage plans. I'm going to put my food in Jamie's tent or Jeep just in case. I will keep the scotch in my tent.

If anyone is in the market for some used 35X12.5X15 Goodyear Wrangler MTR's let me know. I will be putting them up for sale after this trip.

Just under 2 weeks and looking foward to it.  So far it looks like Jeff, Jamie, Brian and myself (with daughters) are going.  Hopeing we might get a few last minute additions to the party.  I was never successful at making  reservations for the slabs.  Anyone else have any luck?  I could only find availability for their cabins.  Not sure if it's an issue with my phone or not.  See everyone at 830 in the spillway.

I may be able to make it.  Do not return from Florida until the 8th.  I will have to check out Jeep that weekend. Will keep you posted.

Well, I drilled a hole into the broken diff cover bolt and tried to use an extractor on it. Of course, the extractor broke. I have tried drilling the extractor out but I don't see any metal shavings. Any recommendations on how to get the bolt out? If I can't get it out I will put it back together and see if I can run it without the bolt for the Rubicon run. It's the lowest bolt and was sheared off by a rock. There is no par of the bolt that extends beyond the face of the diff, so no way to weld something on to it.

Got it fixed. I ground down the thread end of a bolt and my son, who is a very talented pipe welder by trade, was able to weld it on and remove the sheared off end of the bolt.
